My first juried art exhibition in DC!

I am currently exhibiting work at the DC Arts Center in Adams Morgan until September 14th!

The exhibition [IR]REVERENT started out as an idea by curator Dr. Lauren Davidson to highlight women who challenge the status quo. I applied with my “Rest” series: five large scale portraits of women resting.

Dr. Davidson reached out to me in June and expressed her excitement and interest in my work. She encouraged me to complete some of the portraits I had into full-body paintings. So the next two months I was working like the wind. I made over 60 additional cyanotype prints. I used them to doubled the length of my painting Shamari, from 6 feet to 12 feet, and turned it into a full-body portrait. I also added legs to my portrait Jak and added finishing touches to Aphrodite.

With some help from staff, and my awesome dad, we installed these three paintings on August 13th at the DC Arts Center gallery.

The opening was phenomenal! All of the other artists and artwork were carefully selected so that the show was an extremely cohesive body of work. I met the director of the Arts Center and the other amazing artists who were exhibiting. I received so much kind feedback and felt inspired by all the positive energy.

I was also so grateful that my models and friends were able to make an appearance! Both Jak and Shamari were able to come to the opening, making the artwork connect that much deeper to the subject. The model herself was able to share details about the family photographs displayed in the artwork and how the portrait reflected her life experience.

Everyone should come see the work in person. Tell all your friends and family about it! I will be at the Artist Talk on Sunday, September 7th from 3-4pm and at the closing reception on Sunday, September 14th from 5-7pm. I would love to see you there! One of my paintings is made up of about 100 cyanotype prints and spans over 12 feet long so it is a spectacle worthy of a trip to downtown.

The DC Arts Center is located at 2438 18th St. NW on the second floor of the building on 18th Street above Mola Empanada and Shiva Tobacco. The nearest Metro Station is Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan (Red Line).

If you would like to learn more about me, I joined the Gaithersburg Artists Collective this year, and I taught a cyanotype printing workshop for the first time this summer! I’m teaching another one in November at VisArts in Rockville, and I would love to see you there! Feel free to follow me on Instagram for more updates.
